Hydro Seed Lawn Owners Instructions

Watering is the most important part of your new lawn! If you follow these instructions you should have a beautiful, green lawn.

You need to keep the top 1/4 to 1/2 of soil damp.  Do not soak or water for long periods of time.  When temperatures are over 100 degrees, water every couple of hours.  At 90 degrees or less, water every 3 to 4 hours.  To prevent fungus do not water 1 to 2 hours before dark.

If you have an automatic sprinkler system, program the controller to have each zone come on for 5 to 10 minutes at a time(depending on output of irrigation system ).  Run 3 cycles, or programs, per day.  This will keep the soil bed nice and moist. Have the first cycle run in the early morning. Additional cycles should be added when high temperatures persist.  As the grass gains height and maturity, less watering may be needed.  At full maturity (2-4 months) a regular program of less frequent, but longer watering should be followed.

Traffic on a newly hydro seeded lawn should be kept to a minimum.  The watering requirements will make the area a bit moist and potentially soggy to walk on.  Do your best to not damage the soil bed if hand watering with the related moving of sprinkler heads & hoses.

Mowing your new lawn will not be needed until the new grass is at least 2 to 3 inches tall.  Lawn mower blades should be kept sharp to prevent bruised and torn grasses which can cause your lawn to get unsightly brown spots.  Never mow more than 1/3 of the grass height during any one cutting.  Curtail your watering the day before you intend on cutting the grass for the first time because the wheels of the mower may cause ruts in the lawn.  Routine mowing maintenance may occur after the first cutting.

After the first mowing, your new lawn will need to be fertilized.  Use a high nitrogen fertilizer available anywere you buy gardening supplies. The nitrogen is indicated with the first # on the package ie.. 21-7-14 . 21 is the nitrogen component  ( use at least a 10 in the nitrogen #) Read and follow the instructions.

A turf care program is strongly recommended in order to insure the success of the new lawn.  Consult a professional lawn consultant.  Weed control should not be applied for several weeks to allow for the grass to mature.  Weeds can and will be a problem that should be addressed like that of any other new lawn.  Spot seeding may be needed in areas of low germination, washout, or heavy shade conditions.

PLEASE NOTE:  We reserve the right to refuse to re-shoot or touch-up any yard for free that in our opinion did not grow properly because of any of the following reasons: Acts of God, including changes in temperature weather, flood, physical damage, or anything outside of our direct control.

Water, Water, Water!
